Torkoal Fuels ad (2015)

 

This ad is an homage to a famous TV ad that first aired in the UK in 1989. The ad featured a dog, a cat, and a mouse smooching up to a fireplace to advertise coal.

When I first showed this creation to people in 2016 almost no one I showed it too knew about the ad it was referencing, despite featuring in multiple lists of "greatest TV ads ever."

The reason for its creation is to illustrate an article about Pokémon. One mechanic from the games is that they can breed, as long as they are in the same "Egg Group," - no matter what form they are. 

The Pokémon featured here (a Houndour, a Purrloin, and a Dedenne) are in the "Field" Egg Group. The idea of a dog and a cat (and a mouse) been very friendly reminded me of coal ad.
