VGen challenge entry - Hitachiin Reflections (August 2025)

 

Created for VGen's monthly challenge, on the theme of mirrors.

When I heard the theme, one thing that came to mind is the fake mirror trick, where a person encounters a framed hole and a person behind it pretends to the that person's reflection. 

This then bought up the subject of twins - the ideal subjects for this set up.

Only one set of twins seemed perfect for this work - Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin from Ouran High School Host Club.

I wanted to add something else to this piece, to break its seriousness. Punch a hole through the frame, ruining the illusion. I thought about Honey poking his finger through the frame, like a curious kid missing up a magic show. But I struggled to think of how to position him, so the viewer can see who is poking their hand through the empty frame.

In the end, I settled for Haruhi looking on, non-impressed by this "cliché" piece of art.
